日本の観光名所を英語で説明するのはなかなか難しいものですよね。
説明したくてもその場所の知識がなかったり、知識があっても日本語でもきちんと説明できないといった悩みもあるでしょう。
英語で日本の観光名所を説明する場合、いかに分かりやすく案内出来るかが重要です。まず必要最低限の知識を日本語で身につけて、それを簡単に英語で伝えることが出来るといいですよね。
外国人の友人や知人を迎えて楽しい時間を過ごす時にはあらかじめ下見など準備をすることをオススメします。
この記事では京都を代表する観光名所の一つ・世界遺産・二条城を英語で案内するための20フレーズを選びました。
これさえ覚えれば自信を持って外国人に二条城の魅力を案内することが出来ると思いますので是非最後まで読んで実際に何度も声に出して発声してみて下さい。
1, 二条城とは
1, Nijo Castle is very popular tourist destination because tourists can actually get inside the buildings and feel the atmosphere of the Edo period.
二条城は実際に建物の中に入ることが出来きて、江戸時代の雰囲気を感じることが出来るため、観光客にとても人気がある観光スポットです。
2, Nijo Castle was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1994.
二条城は1994年にユネスコの世界文化遺産に登録されました。
3, Nijo Castle was originally built in 1602 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, as his residence in Kyoto.
当初二条城は江戸幕府の初代将軍・徳川家康によって、京都の宿泊所として1602年に建てられました。
4, The third shogun Iemitsu reformed and expanded the castle by integrating the some of the structures from Fushimi Castle, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi had once lived.
３代将軍の家光は二条城を改築し、拡張して、豊臣秀吉がかつて住んでいた伏見城の一部を移築し融合させましました。
5, When Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the fifteenth and the last shogun of the shogunate returned the political power to the emperor in 1867, the castle was offered to the imperial family.
江戸幕府の最後の将軍・15代慶喜が、1867年に大政奉還を行った時に、二条城は天皇家に提供されました。
6, This was the reason why the official name is “Motorikyu Nijojo” or Former Nijo Detached Palace.
このことが理由で二条城の正式名称は「元離宮 二条城」と呼ばれているのです。
7, The castle was used as an imperial palace for a while before being donated to the city and opened to the public as a historic site.
二条城は京都市に寄付され歴史的な名所として一般公開される前までは、しばらくの間御所として使われていました。
8, As you enter the castle grounds through a large gate in the east, a magnificent Chinese style Karamon Gate, the entrance to the Ninomaru Goten appears just in front of you.
大きな東門から城内へ足を踏み入れると、二の丸御殿の入口となっている格式ある見事な唐門がすぐ正面に現れます。
2, 二の丸御殿
9, Ninomaru Goten is an outer fortress of Honmaru or a main building that features a typical warrior Shoin style in the Momoyama period and the castle's main attraction.
二の丸御殿は本丸の外側を囲む城郭で、桃山時代の武家風書院造りの代表的な建物で、二条城の一番の見どころです。
10, Ninomaru Goten is famous for its nightingale floors that make a chirping sound when walked upon.
二の丸御殿は歩くと鳥の鳴き声がする鶯張りの廊下があることで有名です。
11, Legend has it that the squeaking floors were used as a security device, assuring that nobody could sneak through the corridors undetected.
鶯張りの廊下は侵入者が内部に入ってきたら分かるように、防犯装置として使われていたと伝えられています。
12, Ninomaru Goten has 33 rooms or 800 tatami mats consisting of six building units: Waiting Area, Reception, Audience room, Cycad room, Inner Audience Chamber and Shogun's Quarters.
二の丸御殿は遠侍、式台、大広間、蘇鉄の間、黒書院、白書院の6棟が立ち並び、部屋数33部屋、約800畳で構成されています。
13, The paintings on the sliding doors (Fusuma-e) and walls of each room are masterpieces by great contemporary artists of the famous Kano School.
各広間の襖絵と障壁画は当時名声を誇っていた絵師集団・狩野派の大作です。
3, 二の丸庭園
14, The Ninomaru Garden uses the Chisen-Kaiyushiki-Teien style (garden built around the pond), popular Japanese garden style in Edo period.
二の丸庭園は池泉回遊式庭園(庭の中央に池がある形式)で、江戸時代に流行っていた日本庭園です。
15, The garden style represents a cosmic Buddhist world with the pond at the center surrounded by stones in various sizes as well as trees.
池泉回遊式庭園は無限の仏教世界を表現していて、真ん中にある池を囲むように色々な大きさの石や木々が配置されています。
16, The design of the garden is attributed to a renown tea master and garden architect named Kobori Enshu.
二の丸庭園は当時の有名な作庭家で茶人でもあった、小堀遠州の作庭によるものです。
4, 本丸御殿
17, Unfortunately, the original Honmaru Goten (the inner fortress) doesn't exist today.
残念ながら当時の本丸御殿は現存していません。
18, The present structures used to be a palace for Prince Katsura, an imperial member, initially built within the Kyoto Imperial Palace premises and moved to the present location to serve as Honmaru in 1893.
現在の建物は、元々京都御所内の敷地にあった桂宮邸で、1893年に二条城の本丸にするために移築されました。
19, The burned original palace was built by the third shogun Iemitsu in 1626, and used as a residence for himself and his retainers.
消失した当初の本丸御殿は1626年に家光によって建てられ、家光自身と家臣達の宿泊所として使われました。
20, There was a magnificent five-tier donjon located in the current Honmaru area which was struck by lightning and destroyed in 1750.
現在の本丸の場所にはかつて荘厳な五層の天守閣がありましたが、1750年の落雷により倒壊しました。
