日本の観光名所を英語で説明するのは難しいものです。
説明したくてもその場所の知識がなかったり、知識があっても日本語でもきちんと説明できないこともあるでしょう。
英語で日本の観光名所を説明する場合、いかに分かりやすく案内出来るかが重要です。
まず必要最低限の知識を身につけて、それを簡単に伝えることです。
外国人の友人や知人を迎え楽しい時を過ごす機会に恵まれたらまずは下調べすることをオススメします。
今回は英語で日本の観光名所を簡潔に伝えたいと思う人に是非、読んで頂きたいと思います。
この記事では京都を代表する観光名所「南禅寺」を英語で案内するための20フレーズを選びました。
これさえ覚えれば自信を持って外国人に南禅寺の魅力を伝えることが出来るでしょう。

三門は日本で最大級のものの一つで、中にある急な階段を上って三門の上に行くことが出来ます。

京都の市内中心部の素晴らしい眺めと、境内の両側に広がって立つ建物の数々を楼上から見ることが出来ます。
9, Nanzenji's sanmon gate is well known throughout Japan for featuring in the Kabuki tale of "Sanmon-gosan-no-kiri".
南禅寺の三門は歌舞伎の演目「楼門五三桐」の舞台になったことで日本ではとても有名です。

南禅寺の大方丈は京都御所から移築されたもので1590年代に建てられたものです。
11, Leaping Tiger Garden in the compound is a perfect example of the karesansui (dry landscape garden) style, with its rock arrangement representing a tiger and her cubs crossing through the stream.
境内の虎の子渡しの庭は枯山水の様式の典型的な庭で、石組の配置で虎の親子が川を渡る姿を表現しています。

12, Nanzen-in, one of Nanzenji’s sub-temples open to the public, is especially popular among tourists for its autumn foliage.
南禅寺塔頭・南禅院は、通常公開されていて特に秋の紅葉の時期に観光客で賑わいます。
13, Nanzen-in is located near the brick Lake Biwa aqueduct built in the Meiji Period.
南禅院は明治時代に建てられたレンガ造りの琵琶湖疎水の近くにあります。
14, Nanzen-in is a 1703 reconstruction of the original retirement villa of Emperor Kameyama, which was the first building at the Nanzenji complex.
南禅院は元々亀山天皇の離宮だった建物を1703年に再建したもので、南禅寺の建物の中で最初に建てられました。
5, 天授庵
15, Tenju-an, open only in the spring and fall was founded in the 14th century in honor of the priest Fumon but the present buildings date from two centuries later.
春と秋にだけ公開される天授庵は無関普門の徳を慕い14世紀に建てられましたが、現在の建物はそれから200年程後に再建されたものです。
16, Tenju-an contains fusuma-e or paintings of sliding door by Hasegawa Tohoku and some beautiful gardens.
天授庵には長谷川等伯が描いた襖絵と美しい庭園があります。

17, Konchi-in's abbot's quarters were transported from Hideyoshi's Fushimi Castle.
金地院の方丈は秀吉が住んでいた頃の伏見城の遺構です。
18, Konchi-in is most noted for a dry garden by Kobori Enshu and a memorial to Ieyasu Tokugawa built in a mix of Buddhist and Shinto styles.
金地院は小堀遠州作の枯山水庭園があることと仏教と神道両方の様式を融合して建てられた家康を祀る記念碑があることで最も有名です。
7, 南禅寺周辺
19, Nanzenji is located only a short walk from the southern end of the Philosopher’s Path, so you can walk to Ginkakuji or the Silver Pavilion which is located at the northern end of the path.
南禅寺は哲学の道の南の端から歩いてすぐなので、北側の端にある銀閣寺まで歩いて行くことが出来ます。
20, The area around Nanzenji is home to boiled tofu restaurants that have served Nanzenji tofu for a long time.
