衣替えはいつ頃から始まった行事かご存知でしょうか？
衣替えが始まったのは平安時代頃で、元々は中国から伝わったようです。最初は中国に合わせて、旧暦の4月1日と10月1日に衣替えをしていたのが、徐々に服の種類が増えたことで年に何度も衣替えをするようになったようです。そして江戸時代には年4回衣替えをしていたそうです。
明治以降は再度2回の衣替えとなります。着物から洋服を着る機会が増え、暦が太陽暦となったことなどから、衣替えは6月1日と10月1日の年2回となり、現在と同じ習慣になっていきます。
この頃から軍人や警察官が着用する制服を季節に応じて替えることから、それが徐々に学生服や一般の職場にも広まり現在の衣替え文化へと定着しました。
それでは「衣替え」を説明する英語フレーズ20選をご紹介します。
1, 衣替えの説明
1,「Koromogae is seasonal change of clothing.」
衣替えは季節に応じて衣類を替えることです。
2,「We change our wardrobe for new season.」
新しい季節に向けて洋服ダンスの中身を替えます。
3,「We put away our summer clothes and take out our winter clothes.」
夏服をしまって冬服を出します。
4,「The practice of koromogae, or the seasonal change of clothing, is a Japanese custom usually conducted twice a year; around the first day of June and the first day of October. 」
衣替えは日本の習慣で通常は6月1日と10月1日頃に行われます。
5,「Generally, people change from thin, lighter, bright-colored clothes for summer to thick, heavy, dark-colored clothes for winter. 」
一般的には薄手の明るい色の夏服から厚手の暗い色の冬服に変えます。

2, 衣替えの歴史

歴史的な記録によると、衣替えの習慣は8世紀頃、平安時代に中国から日本の皇室に伝わったことによって始まりました。
11,「Around the 17th century, the Tokugawa Shogunate made it a regulation for the samurai class to change their clothing four times in a year, and it was during this period that ordinary people also came to follow this practice.」
17世紀頃、徳川幕府が武士は年4回衣替えをしなければならないという規則を制定し、その頃から庶民の間にも衣替えの習慣が広まりました。
12,「In 1873, with the introduction of Western clothing and the Gregorian calendar in Japan, the Meiji government changed the regulation for koromogae to occur twice a year for civil servants in June and October. 」
1873年、明治政府は当時日本に欧米から洋服がもたらされたり、太陽暦が採用されるようになると公務員の衣替えの規則を6月と10月の年2回に変更しました。

それ以降、衣替えは家庭や制服を着用する職場や学校などで伝統的な習慣として残りました。

3, 衣替えに関する英会話

衣替えの時期はクリーニング代にお金がかかります。

衣替えの時には、クリーニング屋さんに洋服を沢山出します。

冬服を出した時に、古い服を捨てました。

穴の開いた数枚のシャツを捨てました。
19,「I always toss away old socks with holes when I change my clothes for the new season.」
衣替えをする時は、いつも穴が開いている古いソックスを処分します。

我々は着るものを変える事だけでなく、自然の中に変化を見つけることでそれぞれの季節を楽しんでいます。

海外には「衣替え」の習慣がないので、「衣替え」という単語はありません。衣替えは「 季節の服を入れ替える」という意味なので、それを英語で表現すればよいですよ。
英語にはない日本語は沢山ありますが、直訳しようとするのではなく、その言葉の意味をよく考え、それを英語で説明すれば相手に伝わるはずです。
